I've noticed he is not wearing armour on his hands nor legs, is that meant to be an implication that he goes on long journeys? Similar to the 17th century?

Am I correct in thinking the 'strands' coming out or on his helmet are inspired by the terminations on the Hunter's hat? From the cover of Bloodborne?
